From the north lakefront of Ukimido Temple（浮御堂）. As for Katata, Ukimido is known as one of Omi Hakkei （近江八景）or Eight Views of Omi made famous by Hiroshige's picturesque woodblock prints. It is "Kozokunosato-Siryokan"(the Museum of Kataｔa) which is a base of sightseeing in Katata.It is at the place of on foot 5 minutes from Ukimi-do temple. Kozoku(湖族) is the word which comes out in Eiji Yoshikawa's "new The Heike Monogatari", and means the Katata people which controlled the water transport of Lake Biwa at medieval times.The picture hung out of the wall is a traditional picture called "Otsue".This kind of picture is called "Oni-no-nenbutu(a buddhist invocation of a demon). As you see, Machiya(townhouse) is used as it is as a museum. In the first floor of the museum, you can buy the souvenir of Katata. As an unusual souvenir, is "Katata time signal" squid ? This is Machiya (townhouse) built for the Meiji periodis (in the latter half of the 19th century) in Rows of houses called Omichi machi.The pine which grows in the front yard and the peculiar window called Mushiko-mado window (※) are the feature.One of the private houses chosen as the "ancient city scene prize"of Otsu city, Shiga prefecture. ※Mushiko-mado window means the latticed window of the mortar coating prepared in the second floor that faced the passage.It is a window for fire prevention and crime prevention, and is often seen to Machiya in Kansai centering on Kyoto. photograph of Katata,Otsu,Shiga,Japan  Honkatata  "Machiya built for the Meiji periodis (in the latter half of the 19th century) ;the private house in Honkatata no.11"  2009.9.10　16：20 大道町と呼ばれる町並みから、明治期の町屋の前にて。 前庭に生える松と、むしこ窓（※）と呼ばれる独特の窓が特徴です。滋賀県大津市の「古都景観賞」に選ばれている一軒です。 ※むしこ窓とは、通りに面した2階に設けられた、漆喰塗りの格子窓をいいます。防火・防犯のための窓で、京都を中心に関西の町屋によく見られます。

It is Syouzuiji temple in Katata that Ikkyu, who was a famous priest in the 15th century, self-trained from 22 years old to 34 years old. He realized spiritual enlightenment on the beach in Katata. This is one of the temples representing Katata,and a wonderful garden is here as you can see.He was given the name of Ikkyu from Soudon Kasou who was his teacher. photograph of Katata,Otsu,Shiga,Japan Honkatata Syouzuiji temple 19"Syouzuiji temple in October"３ 2009.10.13 10：11 一休さんが22歳から34歳まで修行したのが、祥瑞寺。堅田を代表するお寺のひとつで、ご覧の通り素晴らしい庭園です。 一休さんは堅田の浜辺で悟りを開き、師匠の華叟宗曇（かそう･そうどん）から一休の名前（道号）を授けられました。

In the second half in the 11th century (Heian era last years) ,Katata was a territory in Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto, and "Mikuriya" was put under Kanda Shrine, and the obligation to which an attendanttable to Kamonoyashiro and seafood for an attendant festival are presented was carried.As the reward, Katata got every rights and interests from fishery or the service of Lake Biwa and built the greatest town around Lake Biwa in the Middle Ages.Every year, "Kensen Kugonin gyouretsu" procession which leaves the Kanda shrine and sends crucian carp to Shimogamo Shrine is performed gracefully with the traditional ritual on May 14,the day before Aoi Festival of Kyoto. photograph of Katata,Otsu,Shiga,Japan Honkatata kanda shrine ８ "Kanda Shrine in October" 2009.10.13　12：21 11世紀後半（平安時代末期）、堅田の地は京都の下鴨神社の神領となりました。神田神社のもとに御厨が置かれて、加茂社への供膳・供祭のための魚介類を献上する責務を負ったのです。その見返りとして、堅田は琵琶湖の漁業や運行などあらゆる権益を得て、中世に琵琶湖最大の町を築くこととなります。 例年、京都の葵祭りの前日に当たる5月14日には、神田神社を出発して、鮒を下鴨神社に届ける「献饌供御人行列」が、古式ゆかしく行われています。
