トピック: The shots taken and keepers ratio

wrote 投稿: 2 年, 4 月 前
Hi,

As part of my maths statistics project I'm investigating on average how many shots does it take to get a keeper ( a photo where you feel you've really got most of the apects of the photo as you wanted and, mainly, YOU are happy with).
So I would appreciate if you could just tell me how many shots do you take an average and how many keepers do you usually get or just tell me the results of your last photoshoot.

Thanks you.

Last weekend I shot in San Francisco and took about 350 shots. I posted 10 to Zooomr, about 50-75 were family shots (which I don't usually post to Zooomr, so don't think you should count). There's probably 10-20 other photos I consider "keepers".

Hi hvl, interesting topic. I guess it really depends on what you're shooting. If i have a lot of time for the setup, there's a 50% chance. But if i shoot on the streets, maybe one of a hundred is a keeper.

I think something like 1:20 on a good day.

I guess digital saved everyone, imagine how much money you would have to waste in processing all these pix before you switched to a digital camera

On my most recent shooting session, I shot 333 photos and posted 17 to my Zooomr page. That means I kept about 5%.

Yeah I'd say around 5% too, though I still keep the rest, but I guess that's not your definition of a keeper.

On a typical shoot I might shoot around 400 photos and keep maybe 50.

Thank you for your replies and keep them coming. When shooting on the street I probably keep about 2-5 out of 200 (yeah, I suck). In a more controled environment it may rise up to 50% of the photos taken.

Mine is around 10 - 20%. In my case, post-processing helps save some at-first-sight unusable photos.

I agree w/ 23, it really does depend on the topic of your shots. When I shoot skateboard shots... the trick has to be landed, timing has to be perfect.. most of the time i'm at the mercy of the skater.

about 5%, and if they don't come out of the camera right, that's it.

10%.

I'm really selective with my work and try allot of things. Bracketing of the save exposure decrease the keeprs from 300% so it really depends the way I shoot. I usually keep 1-3 awesome pictures from a 36 exposures rool, but with digital I may post even less than 1% of my pictures taken.

In fact I just posted around 120 pictures last year and shoot like nuts.

there is an unnofficial rule among pros that "it is a good shoot if you get one decent shot out of a roll of film." Now, if we're not talking about bulk-loaded cameras, we can assume the roll is 12 shots, at best. that's about 8%...for professionals. Ametuers can expect a much lower return obviously. this saying predates digital photography, however.

I tend to use the shotgun approach with my digital...shoot everything and sort it out later. I did a xmas shoot with my family. after about 300 shots throughout the week, I got maybe 10 I liked...about 3%. In my defense, I was doing some experimenting and my subjects were uncooperative young children.

I think 1 in 20 are keepers, and 1 in 50 are pictures I actually like. It is nice therefore that i can look round zooomr, and find lots of pictures i like, I don't have to take 50!

My case is a little special. My job consists of taking photos of places for commercial shootings. Usually on a day's work I take some 500-700 pictures, but those shouldn't count.
And then the keepers ratio is always different depending what I am shooting. If I'm doing close-ups I usually have a 1 in 5 ratio.

But my wild guess is that of 1 in 20. Most of my pics are online here.

Recently shot 2057 shots over 6 days, and I only kept 200. If I filter some more, I think the final number will be around 100.

So 5-10% for me.

Everything's a keeper to me and if I could, I'd post every photo I take. I've taken over 2,100 photos since January 1, 2008.

5-10%

Yesterday I took 170 pictures and I kept about 40. Of those 40 about 10 I actually liked and the rest were just used for "event shots"
